We are trying to install the Thick Client and Config on a workstation. The installation works fine and the ODBC data source has been configured. However, when either the Thick Client or Config is opened, a dialogue box opens asking for an "Administrator Password". If we click "Proceed" without entering something, access is denied. I suspect this has something to do with the SQL database but am not sure.

We have to deal with the same situation in our environments. In our case, it is because our SQL servers are locked to the extent that it will not allow a connection to automatically create a Workstation account on the database. Anytime we try to use Config or Client on a new workstation, we need to work with the DBAs and have those restrictions temporarily released, let the HSI account create a workstation login, and then they lock it back down again.

Hi everyone,
If your organization doesn't allow for the HSI account to have the securityadmin privilege, which is needed to create Workstation Logins at the database level, you can optionally enable a setting that will not create the workstation logins at all. When the option is enabled, all Thick Client connections use the HSI account which can make troubleshooting and/or tracking activities from the database level a little more challenging but we do have many customers that use this option rather than granting security admin.
The option is in Configuration under Global Client Settings > Security and is called 'Disable Workstation account creation'.
