Azure SQL Database and Foundation

Hello,

I noticed that Foundation supports Azure SQL Database.

Has anyone migrated their OnBase SQL Database to Azure? We're in the process of planning our foundation upgrade and would be keen to get some insight into the database on Azure side.

How you found the process and any issues you may have encountered.

Thanks!

Morning-

In the same situation as well. Have tried multiple vectors unsuccessfully. Azure DMA, bacpac restore, Azure DMS, even transfer to database from OnBase Config (database size problem) does not yield functional results.

After one-to-one copy table by table, config throws an error

'Reference to database and/or server name in ‘master.dbo.syslogins’ is not supported in this version of SQL server.'

There is some fundamental reference in the on-prem database which causes conflicts when porting to Azure SQL that needs to be identified.

Morning-

Had a huge break through last night. There is one setting in config which was the crux of the issue. In config, when attached to the On-Prem SQL server, the setting Users >Global Client Settings > Disable Workstation Account Creation must be checked.

In essence the process looks like this.

Upgrade to EP3 On-Prem

Assess/Generate Schema with either Data Migration Assistant or Azure Database Migration Service(free for 6 months)

Mitigate any schema conflicts

Migrate Schema with either toolkit

Offline Migration of data using either tool

There are some complication with an online migration due to a new encrypted Stored Procedure called csp_AddDMUser, but had little effect in our situation. Suggest contacting support to confirm.

Hi Bill,

Thanks so much for the updates! Glad you had some success.

I'll include these steps in our upgrade plan.

Thanks!
