Using Microsoft Word from Web Client

Hi,

What would be the best way to integrate MS Word with web client in a similar way that the Unity Client does? I am referring to opening a word document directly in the MS Word desktop app from the Web client for viewing and editing.

I understand that UC, being a desktop application, can benefit from Microsoft Interop libraries and other Windows-based application integration APIs and protocols but is there a chance to achieve a similar level on user experience using the Web Client?

Cheers,

Catalin.

I recommend starting with the following Tech Support Knowledge base article:

The most common solution path involves Office Online and the WOPI protocol. Here is a blog post which includes some great resources:

If you are on EP1 or newer, you can take advantage of an improved solution:

So you kind of have two options that I am aware of.

The first option is to setup a WOPI server and that will allow you to do what you described. The other way is to work on leveraging the new Microsoft Office 365 integration that Hyland has.

I know the WOPI server is free to setup, but it requires being able to connect to Microsoft some way (I don't know the full details, sorry).

I am sure someone else will be able to chime in to correct anything I have said or add on. 🙂
