I am wondering if it is possible to set up a Data Provider to pull information from multiple OnBase environments. For example, I want to compare configuration in our Development, Test, and Production environments. I know I could create the same report and export it from each environment, but it would be cooler if I could set up a data provider to pull the information for me. Has anyone tried this? Added complication, I'm hosted on the Hyland Cloud.
Thanks for your input!

Hi Alexa,
I don't think you could query from multiple environments (databases) with one data provider, but you may be able to set up additional data sources and use the same data provider contents (SQL) in separate data providers that use a different source:
I'm not sure what limitations might exist for hosted customers in terms of having other reporting sources configured.

Hey Alexa,
You can use the “External Database” feature offered in the Admin section to establish connections to any database for analysis within Reporting Dashboards. Once those connections are established you’ll then be able to create custom SQL data providers to report against data sources outside of your production environment. Because you are hosted in the cloud, you will need to first contact your account manager to have the database connections created for you to leverage from your production environment.

Hello Alexa,
I am wondering anyone got back to you on this.. How were you thinking about creating report for each environement. I looking to review the confog data in 1 environemnt and cant find good reports to use. I know we have the config reports in thick clent but they are hard to read. Is there any other (mayba dasboard reports) that can be used? What's your experience so far with that?

Hi Ediz,
Yes, we use Custom SQL reports in Dashboards to pull, for example, all keywords, their number in OB, the name, data type, length (if applicable), etc. Basically everything from the hsi.keytypetable we would want to see in one place.
We similarly have reports for KTGs/MIGK/Autofills, Doc types, Disk groups, keyword configuration on documents.
I find it very handy when creating new dashboards to have this information available and easy to find. Also handy in figuring out badly commented SQL ("what keyword are they referencing?")
A lot of these reports were cribbed from old canned Report Services reports.
I hope this helps you!
Best,
Alexa

May be worth posting this here too, since it sounds like the goal is to compare configuration between environments: https://community.hyland.com/ideas/idea/73865-create-function-to-compare-configuration-between-envir...
