Why did you change the Third Party Compatibility Matrix?

The changes to the Third Party Compatability Matrix are terrible! Why did you remove the multi-page list? Now it has a lousy search option that wont even find results for 'Adobe'. Seriously? Quit fixing what isn't broken on this site. It's already barely useful.

I agree.

Hi @Steve Lucido,

The new Third Party Compatibility List provides a way for you to search the long list by OnBase Version, Microsoft Security Guide, and by third party product.  You can also narrow down by Category and choose a sorting option.  The "Export all" button allows you to view the entire list in MS Excel.

You can see why Adobe is not listed in the new Third Party Compatibility List in this previous thread here:

Matrix is not including Adobe Reader DC.

Here is some key information from that thread:

We've been working to remove Acrobat from the Third Party compatibility list, but it looks like we missed a couple older versions. We'll get those cleaned up.

Some background: The only explicit dependency for Acrobat in OnBase is when a user attempts to print a PDF in Unity and Thick clients. The clients leverage an executable (AcroRd32.exe) that currently ships with all versions of Acrobat Reader and DC at this point, so we can assume blanket support vs. calling out explicit versions in the third party matrix. In terms of viewing, OnBase leans on the operating system to determine which program to render the PDF through (this could be Acrobat, or other products like Foxit Reader, etc.). The Unity Client specifically renders through IE11 (pre-EP3) or Chromium (EP3+) for PDF viewing leveraging the installed viewer, while the Thick Client renders through the Windows OLE Server.

A couple things to keep in mind related to PDFs:

  • Only one PDF viewer should be installed and avoid mixing Acrobat Reader DC and Standard/Pro
  • The PDF Viewer, as long as it has an IE11 plugin (pre-EP3) will work with OnBase (outside of the printing use case noted above specifically for Adobe)
  • Make sure you're running the latest version of your PDF Viewer, regardless of the brand

Also:

Acrobat Reader is one of the many PDF Viewers that are compatible with OnBase. While there is a Print Menu option that integrates into Acrobat Reader, it is the single integration point. Most users leverage the PDF Viewer toolbar or context menu for printing and not the OnBase provided menu.

We have seen an increase in PDF Creator application usage and listing Reader causes the unintended outcome that multiple PDF applications are installed in the operating system and at times conflict with each other creating a negative user experience.

It is encouraged to keep the PDF Viewer updated/patched with the latest version from the manufacturer. If a particular PDF Viewer does not seem compatible, please let us know and we can take a look.

Thanks!
