Restrict download and print from Experience ContentApps

Not applicable

One department that uses Experience ContentApps on our campus would like to restrict the ability of their users to download or print a document. The security defined in the desktop application can restrict access only for the desktop app itself. However, If a user is prevented from downloading a document in the desktop app, that same user can download the document just by switching the client to the Experience browser.

We want to prevent the users in this department from downloading the document, but other departments should still have the capability to do so. Is this kind of restriction possible? From the installation guide for Experience, it appears preventing a download is possible, but this is effective for the entire Experience environment and can't be narrowed to one department or security group only.

Hi @Don McNeil - Thanks for the question. In the Content Apps 3.0 release we made an update that ties the export/download actions to the "Save Local Copies" user privilege. If a user does not have this priv the action will not be available in the Content Apps document viewer. This differs from the previous method of modifying the toolbar buttons which would affect all users. This update allows you toggle this functionality on a user by user basis.

Excellent. I tested this locally and it worked as expected. Thanks @Brandon Crespino
