OnBase 'In the Cloud' - Database Integrations and OnBase Database Access

Hi, all-- we ('we' being the University of California, Merced) are currently in the early stages of implementing our OnBase cloud solution.  One big challenge that we are facing is integrating OnBase with various Oracle databases that power our data warehouse (i.e. ODS, or operational data store)  and student information system (Banner), as well as pulling data from the OnBase database itself.

Because we are 'in the cloud', we've been told that we cannot pull data directly from the OnBase database (we can only pull data from a backup of our data, but Hyland seems reluctant to create scheduled, daily backups for us).  We've also been told that in order to read/write data to/from our ODS and Banner systems (both of which are in the cloud), we would either have to supply Hyland with the appropriate Oracle drivers so that ODBC connections could be set up on our application servers or use Web services instead (which, apparently, is the preferred method).

So without getting into too many more grisly details, can someone who is also 'in the cloud' and interacting with multiple external databases (and also has a need to query the OnBase database itself)  give us an idea as to what your architectural solution to these issues is? We'd also love to talk to other higher ed institutions who have similar needs.

Thanks!

Hi Bryan,

Just wanted to check in and see if you found a way to access the OnBase database without too much pain. And how did integration go with Banner and ODS - did you end up using a web service, the drivers at Hyland or another solution?

Thanks!
