OnBase Database Move from SQL Server 2000 to a SQL Server 2008 R2 Database Server.

Hello,

We are planning on moving an OnBase database version 6.2 from a SQL Server 2000 to a SQL Server 2008 R2.  We need to find out if OnBase 6.2 (Build Version 6.2.0.534) is compatible with the SQL Server 2008 R2. Thank you!

Hi Ruben,

We did not add support for Microsoft SQL Server 2008 until OnBase version 9.0.  Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 was officially supported starting in version 10.0.

Hope that helps.

Dan

Thanks for the prompt reply Dan.  We really need to verify if we are going to be able to successfully run OnBase 6.2 after moving the database (Build Version 6.2.0.534) to a SQL Server 2008 R2. The plan is to move the OnBase database to our new SQL Server 2008 R2 and then upgrade the OnBase database to version 11.0 in about two weeks. Would it be fair to say that Hyland doesn't support running the OnBase database version 6.2 on a SQL Server 2008 R2 database server?

Yes, it would be fair to say that Hyland doesn't support running the OnBase database version 6.2 on a SQL Server 2008 R2 database server.  This is mostly due to the fact that SQL 2008 was not available when 6.2 was released, and we have not done any testing of OnBase 6.2 running in SQL 2008.

Having said that, it is likely that OnBase will run under SQL 2008, however, it has not been tested by Hyland, and will not be supported by Hyland.  Any problems/defects found would require an upgrade to a version of OnBase that supports SQL 2008 (10.0 or higher, which is sounds like you are planning anyway).

Do you have a test environment that you can test this out in?  Also, I would recommend that you upgrade to OnBase 12, which was released in July.

Thank you for the verification Dan. There is a test environment but, running OnBase 6.2 on a L Server 2008 R2 database server hasn't been fully tested yet.

Based on what I have learned today, would it made more sense to upgrade OnBase to the latest version of 11.0 or 12.0  prior to moving to the new SQL Server 2008 R2 database server?

I agree with upgrading to OnBase version 12 instead of version 11.0, but the consensus is that version 12 has not been out long enough to try it yet.
