Fujitsu IP Paper Stream

Good Morning Hyland,

My understanding is that OnBase will eventually be intergraded with the Fujitsu IP PaperStream application.  Afte a number of calls with Fujitsu.  Which effectively replaces the need to have Kofax VRS in either a software or hardware based version. For point of scanning image cleanup and barcode recognition.

Can anyone share in what up and coming OnBase release this functionality will be made available if it is indeed valid?

We ran into a scenario yesterday with 5 new Fujitsu 6800 devices had been ordered without the OEM VRS cards.  With the misunderstanding that IP PaperStream would have worked to replace VRS for production level barcode recognition at point of scanning.

PaperStream provides the barcode recognition but OnBase version 13.0.2.645 does not currently support it.  We overcame the issue by pursing the OEM hardware VRS cards.  But am still curious on when these two applications will be intergrated.  If at all.

OnBase does support Fujitsu PaperStream scanners using either ISIS or Twain, and you're correct that we don't currently support the built-in PaperStream support for bar code recognition, although with OnBase licensing for production level Twain or ISIS scanning, we do provide our own bar code recognition tools that will work with these (or any) scanners.

VRS includes barcode recognition capability. I think it is a dll included with VRS.  We have successfully used that capability with OnBase to automate 1 barcode per sheet operations since we bought OnBase in 2010.  We use this function every day with two Fujisu fi-6770 document scanners with the OEM hardware VRS cards and used it with a now decommissioned Kodak (BBH) Truper 3600 Pro with software VRS.

Before you ask, I don't know about the max number of barcodes that VRS can recognize and pass on to OnBase Production Document Imaging.  Haven't had the time or need yet to try that out.   Gotta find the time and eventually try this with an indexing barcode sheet created with Application Enabler.

Hi Steve,

Is the “OnBase licensing for production level TWAIN or ISIS scanning” different from “Production Document Imaging (Kofax OR TWAIN)” ?

If it is a different license would the barcodes being recognized by PaperStream be recognized by OnBase within version 13?

Otherwise, could you lightly detail how to accomplish production level barcode recognition at point of capture? Using the Fujitsu 6800 with the current OnBase options WITHOUT Kofax VRS?

We are licensed for “Production Document Imaging (Kofax OR TWAIN). We are not licensed for the “Bar Code Recognition Server”, but that matters little since it is a post capture solution.

To clarify, scanning via IP PaperStream works just fine for acquiring content using the TWAIN interface. But that solution, as we noted, does not currently have production level barcode recognition. Or any barcode recognition from the OnBase side using PaperStream.

If there is a way to return the OEM VRS boards, I want to know how using our current licensing.

The original question remains, if and when OnBase will have an integrated solution with Fujitsu PaperStream. Similar to the current solution with VRS.

Not applicable

we have Fujitsu 6800 machines with Kofax VRS, but we are changing to Pegasus courtesy of Hyland.  we are choosing to register the onbase client with Document Imaging (TWAIN) instead of (KoFax or TWAIN) and installing Pegasus on the workstations for barcode recognition.  working great..  One of the reasons we had not done this sooner was that OnBase didn't have the Aztec barcode recognition licensed yet, but as of Version 12 they do.  we recently upgraded from 11 to 13.
