The ability to display the document count for folders does not exist within the software. Enhancement SCR #64548 was created to request this functionality but Development has decided to not move forward with adding this enhancement into the software. The reason for this is that by including the document count would possibly create a performance issue with regards to folders.
If your business practice is to have a specific set of documents within the folder and you are using the document count to see if documents are missing form the folder, it is recommended to use Folder Templates for this. Additional information on how to configure Folder Templates can be found in the Folders MRG.
