Medical Pop Integrations - Patient Viewer

Just for some background information we currently have OnBase 12 and have been looking into researching the differences between the different Medical Pop Integrations and currently the OnBase team is interested in potentially looking into LogitudinalPop. After additional research this is what is considered a Legacy Pop integration and I'm not sure if this causes issues at all and what would be a benefit and/or deadvantage to using this. We currently use Epic as our EMR system and OnBase as the document repository.

And now for the fun part...

Patient Viewer seems like a nice polished overall 'Medical Pop' module. Does this essentially work seemlessly with Epic? What would be some advantages to Patient Viewer vs the other Legacy Pops? I've been looking through the MRG have a good understanding of the usage itself but I just wanted to get some additional suggestions from the wonderful OnBase community.

Good Morningg Derek!

The first thing I would state is that that OnBase Patient Viewer has been released in OnBase 13.0.1.104.  It would not be available by default out of the box with OnBase 12 however you could stand up a separate App Server with OnBase 13.

Stepping beyond the logisitics, OnBase Patient Viewer is our replacement clinical interface for all previous versions of our Medical Pops. We have taken what we learned from our customers with each of the different medical pops and built an all-inclusive OnBase Patient Viewer.  We focused on flexibility and ease of use necessary for a clinician to find what they need from a patient's record.  We will still support the single viewing of documents within our Epic Viewer and we will still support the Medical Pops and fix defects within the software however we will not be enhancing the Medical Pops further.  Our focus now is expanding the feature set of the OnBase Patient Viewer to include functionality such as DICOM Viewing, Thumbnail Viewing, Multi-Pane Viewing, and Timeline Views to provide clinicians with the toolsets they need to find all content that is outside of the EMR in a unified and simplistic fashion.

In order to integrate the OnBase Patient Viewer into an Epic environment, a concept called "Epic Activity Buttons" exist that allow an administrator to configure URLs to third party systems that can be launched and embedded within Epic in Patient Context. It is a pretty simplistic configuration.  All of the necessary SSO security we have built into our Epic Integration is available and may be used with our OnBase Patient Viewer.  Some configuration exists to set up the Patient Viewer tabs and filtering options but once set up the users will be ready to go and have an interface that will be flexible and allow for user personalization to meet each cllinicians needs. One thing to note is that this concept can be used in conjunction with our Epic Viewer that exists today through the Epic links.

Due to the advanced functionality within this new viewer, more extensive data requirements exist within your OnBase schema. Because of this, customers are required to work with Hyland Services Team to ensure they are capturing the right data and their configuration is correctly set up.

If you have any additional questions, please feel free to ask.
