Customers upgrading to OnBase Foundation EP2 or to specific builds of OnBase Foundation EP3 (20.3.0 – 20.3.17) may be impacted by an upgrade defect that resulted in all existing Patient Record Processor HL7 Import Processor configurations from functioning after completing an upgrade to an affected build.

Detection

Any environment utilizing the Patient Record Processor for any HL7 Message Type prior to upgrading to and affected build of OnBase Foundation EP2 or OnBase Foundation EP3 will be impacted.

To determine the severity of the impact, review the number of HL7 Message Types configured to trigger the Patient Record Processor by navigating to: Configuration Client | Medical | HL7 | HL7 Import Processors and searching for any processor with a Message Action of “Patient Record Processor”.

Impact

Affected environments will prevent the Patient Record Processor from functioning when an incoming HL7 message is received. The result will be that patient records will only be maintained via the Medical Records Chart processor.

This could result in patients without any OnBase Charts not being created or maintained in OnBase. In a typical environment, the impact is limited to OnBase’s ability to process an ADT^A28 or ADT^A31 message as expected.

New environments and newly created HL7 Import Processors are not affected by this defect.

Corrective Actions

Affected environments can be corrected in the following manners:

  1. Manually open and save all Patient Record Processor configurations after upgrading to an affected build. The action of saving the processor will correct the upgrade defect and restore normal functionality for the Patient Record Processor.
  2. Upgrade to OnBase Foundation EP3 build 20.3.18.1000 or later. The upgrade defect and side effects of the defect are resolved in corrected builds of OnBase.
