VB Script Hooks Question

I am wanting to use a VB script to capture our AP Batch number that is keyed in during indexing and save it or stick it so that they don't have to key it every time until it changes and then they key the new number.  We are using an external autofill but we don't want to have to key the batch number every time just when it changes.  My question is which VB script hook would I use?

Can you just use the padlock on the AP Batch number during your scan/index operation?

Well I thought that at first but when you click that it locks all the keyword fields.

It looks like the autofill is locking all of the leywords.  If you just lock one without doing anything it will lock it but once you trigger the autofill and try and lock it, it locks them all.  Has anyone used a VB script to stick a keyword so they don't have to key it every time?
