Oracle DB: What version of Oracle 19 ODBC driver will work with OnBase 21.1.6

Hi

We are on OnBase version 21.1.6 and Oracle database version 19c.  We are experiencing problems with certain operations. for instance when saving VB-scripts from OnBase config tool, using Oracle ODBC driver v19.x/21.x.  It works when using ODBC v12_2, but this is out of support, and should not be used.

So this is a question to those of you who are running on Oracle 19c, which version of the Oracle ODBC driver are u using for Config and OnBase Client?

Thanks in advance

Regards,

Inger

Hi @Inger Magny Granli,

There are known issues with the Oracle 19c ODBC with OnBase.

See Using Oracle 19c ODBC with Client

Description

If it is still recommended not to use the 19c client, will there be an update/bulletin to say when it is okay? Where do the bulletins get posted?

Resolution
Technical Notice 202008-CONFIG-1407

VARIOUS DATA INTEGRITY ISSUES MAY OCCUR WHEN THE ORACLE 19C ODBC DATABASE DRIVER IS USED WITH ONBASE

Hyland has discovered an issue where various data integrity issues may occur when the Oracle 19c ODBC database driver is used with OnBase.

AFFECTED VERSIONS AND BUILDS: All builds of OnBase from version 15.0 and higher

Oracle database version 19c is supported for use with OnBase Foundation in EP3 (20.3) and higher. However, when the 19c ODBC database driver used to communicate with any Oracle database that houses OnBase, certain calls made from an OnBase module may be interpreted incorrectly. This can result in various data integrity issues throughout the system and could manifest itself in incorrectly returned data, error messages, and other unexpected behaviors. If the incorrectly returned information is saved in this state, the preexisting and correctly stored information could inadvertently be overwritten. The nature of this issue is such that a user may be unaware that incorrect data is presented and/or saved, and the severity of this issue will vary in each environment depending on the type and frequency of information queried in the Oracle database.

As such, Hyland strongly recommends that a different Oracle ODBC driver is used until this issue is resolved by Oracle. Oracle allows for and supports older Oracle ODBC drivers (e.g. 12c or 18c) which can safely be used instead of the Oracle 19c driver. It is recommended that you use the latest version of the 12C or 18C drivers that match the installed version of Oracle. It is important to note than any Oracle database server using the 19c driver will be impacted (e.g. 12c, 18c, or 19c).

I hope this helps.

Thanks,

~Alan

Thanks, Alan.  I saw that bulletin, but was hoping that the issue(s) were solved in later versions of the 19c driver.

Obviously not, then.

We encoutered the same issue with the 19.0.0, 32 bit Oracle drivers, but I can confirm that this is no longer an issue  after installing the instant-client basic and instantclient-odbc 19.19.0 drivers.
