Is running SQL Server 2016 compatibility level for SQL Server 2012 supported for OnBase 16?

We are currently on OnBase version 16.0.1.69. We are in a situation where we may need to upgrade our SQL Server from 2012 to 2016 before we can perform an OnBase upgrade. The compatibility matrix shows that Hyland started supporting SQL Server 2016 on version 16.0.2.72.

Our DBAs would like to know if running SQL Server 2016 with compatibility level set for SQL Server 2012 would be supported by Hyland?

Hi Mark,

OnBase does not have any reliance on a particular Compatibility Level for SQL Server, so Compatibility Level 110 (SQL Server 2012) would be fine for SQL Server 2016.  The only exception that comes to mind are a few Report Services reports that utilize the PIVOT function, which has been available since SQL Server 2005.  The general recommendation is to match the compatibility level of the RDBMS, but using an earlier Compatibility Level will not make your OnBase solution unsupported.

That said, I would be cautious on implementing a SQL Server release not officially supported with your OnBase build.  Unfortunately, setting the compatibility level to that of a supported release does not mean that your solution would be running on a supported database platform.  For your scenario, I'd recommend working with your First Line of Support to identify the best path forward.
