Is OnBase CMIS compliant?

A discussion was proposed about using Application Enabler to read data from an IBM Content Manager screen as there was not an ERP system immediately available. Not sure if AppEnabler would work in this scenario, but it spurred on the question of, is OnBase AppEnabler or OnBase itself, CMIS compliant?

After performing some research online, and in Community, and our FLOS, it would seem that OnBase is not CMIS compliant. Which leads to another question of should it be?

Has anyone asked this question before? Any information would be appreciated.

Hello Christian,

You are correct. At this time, OnBase is not CMIS compliant. We have reviewed CMIS in the past and found that there was little interest from our customer base in pursuing compliance. If your organization has a need for this, please get in contact with your Account Manager and let them know. Thank you!

Hi Kris,

With all due respect to those at Hyland, all of whom are much smarter than I, why is a compliance standard up to interest from the Hyland customer base?? This popularity contest attitude is frustrating.

If Hyland has evaluated the CMIS standard and has found that it is not in the best interest of their customers, then let's hear those reasons. The biggest concern when I hear that an organization is not interested in becoming compliant with an industry standard is that it is a way to hold their customers to their product and is not always in the best interest of their customers.

Thank you for considering this view.

Sincerely,

Agreed, especially now when it is in Leadership quadrant. Is OnBase CMIS compliant now? Does it provide any web application on top of OnBase that can be used by other applications to make a CMIS call to OnBase?

Kind Regards,

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your comment, we always value community input! I don't mean to give the impression that whether or not we choose to pursue a given standard is only based on customer demand - this is only one of the factors.

In the case of CMIS, because it is a relatively good fit for our productline, we may choose to pursue it at a later date. Our decision to not pursue it at this time has freed us up to pursue other standards which we believe are also in the best interest of our customers and product *and* have strong interest from our community including FIPS 140-2 and ISO 14641 (which we are currently exploring).

Rest assured, our number one concern is the integrity of our product and expanding the best functionality for our community. We have declined to pursue a number of efforts that had customer support because we believed them to be a poor fit for the product.

I hope this answers your concerns, thanks for being an active member of our community!
