Is there a way to pass a search parameter from a separate web application to execute a custom query and display the results in the unity client?

If you are ok with running your Unity Client in Service Mode you could use the technology of URIs

See the section in the Unity Client MRG labeled "Configuring Unity Pop Links"

https://www.onbase.com/community/onbase_product_communities/unity_client_product_page/p/downloads?p=...

Here is a good discussion on how to format for a Custom Query.

https://www.onbase.com/community/onbase_product_communities/workflow_product_page/f/workflow-product...

Example:

Onbase://cq/?cqid=102&KT156_0_0_0=6677
