Documentation for updating the Test environment

Since Go-Live we have made many changes to Production and not always followed up in Test. We want to copy the Prod environment to Test.
Question: Do you have comprehensive instructions for copying our Production environment to Test?

Hi Leah,

Thanks for the post!

You have two options; Configuration Migration or use the step in the Creating a Test Environment document.  Configuration Migration is a utility within OnBase Config which allows for the configuration of your production system to be migrated into a blank database used for testing purposes.  With this option, no data from the disk groups or document metadata (ie keywords, etc) is migrated to test, only the configuration of the system.

The other options is to use the documents steps in the Creating a Test Environment document.  The steps listed in this document will discuss what is necessary to create a test environment from production.  This method is better suited if you would like to have production data (ie document files and the metadata) in your test environment.

Take care.

Hi Adam,

For the second option, ie the traditional method, is it possible to limit the restoration to just the workflow configuration, keywords and document types. Similar to Leah, we already have a test database but find that the disparity between Prod and Test getting bigger. However, I'm only interested in bridging the gap for the workflow configuration, keywords and document types.

Is this possible? Thank you.

I found the approach described in the Creating a Test Environment document to be much easier than Configuration Migration.

Hi Jin,

When it comes to Workflow, all that you will need to do is a Workflow Export of the Lifecycle.  The Workflow Export will contain all associated life cycles, Document Types, Keywords, etc.  The process will export anything associated with the life cycle except for user group permissions and Document Type Disk Group assignments.  Once you have the Workflow Export you will be able to import it into the other OnBase system.

You can find more information about the Workflow Export under the Exporting Life Cycles in the Workflow MRG.

Take care.
