I have a secret. I’m Batman.

Ok, not really, but I am a huge Batman fan. And I absolutely love the “Dark Knight” trilogy. I’ve probably watched Heath Ledger’s incredible performance as the Joker at least 50 times.

I’m also a big fan of the Batman television series from the ‘60s. Therefore, I’m going to switch back and forth between those vastly different worlds. Please forgive me.

As some of you out there already know, there’s a new Bruce Wayne in town. Recently, “The Batman” hit theatres. So, I figured it’s the perfect time to share how the Hyland Cloud can vastly improve Batman’s crime-fighting efforts.

Fasten your safety Batbelts, here we go!

1. The Batcave

Issue: Connectivity

True, it’s nice and cool down there in the subterranean netherworld under Wayne Manor. Really good for all the Batservers, right?

But caves tend to flood. Especially caves with waterfalls in them. And when Batman is battling a super-villain for the soul of Gotham City and needs access to critical information from the on-prem High-Spectrograph Batanalyzer™, he needs connectivity.

And he needs it now. Even if the Batcave is under water.

Solution: To the Hyland Cloud!

There, you’ll find 99.99 percent data availability.

With your information stored in highly available, N+1 redundant infrastructure that includes failover exercises, replication, and incidence response protocols, you’ll have access to the information you need to provide service to your community of customers. Even when the Joker’s in town and up to his old tricks.

2. The Batsuit

Issue: Lack of flexibility

A bullet-proof suit that helps you survive repeated falls from skyscrapers isn’t very flexible. That’s why Bruce asked Lucius Fox — CEO and president of Wayne Enterprises, as well as the enthusiastic provider of the Dark Knight’s gadgets — to make him a new suit.

“You want to be able to turn your head,” says Fox.

Think of your on-premises technology as the original Batsuit. Maybe even the hilarious one Adam West wore in the TV show. That Batsuit had a utility belt with amazing features — for 1966.

Alas, technology has advanced a bit since the days of the blinking red Batphone, old chums.

Solution: To the Hyland cloud!

The cloud is like the Batsuit 2.0. Always ready to help, Lucius Fox developed a new Batsuit made of hardened Kevlar plates with titanium-dipped tri-weave fibers.

You’ll be lighter, faster, more agile,” Fox tells Wayne when he demos the new suit’s capabilities.

The cloud is a lot like a Batsuit 2.0. It’s important. Because business is a lot like crime fighting — you need to be able to turn your head, so you can proactively evaluate the entire business climate and save the day. Meanwhile, letting passionate experts keep your infrastructure optimized and uncompromised frees your innovative employees to pivot toward coming up with the next great idea.

3. The Batbudget

Actually, Bruce Wayne is worth $9.2 billion, while Wayne Enterprises has $33 billion in assets, according to Money.

So, Batman doesn’t need to worry about reducing costs like legacy tech, on-premises architecture, and server maintenance. After all, a guy who lives in a 42,500 square-foot mansion with a butler and a giant cave full of cool technology underneath doesn’t need to make budget requests.

Not applicable.

3. The Batrope

Issue: Scalability

Ah, the Batrope. Batman and Robin usually use it in tandem with the Batarang. This gives the dynamic duo the ability to scale the sides of Gotham City high rises — fulfilling their daily requirement of exercise while keeping the element of surprise on their side.

But business isn’t like the ‘60s show, where scaling is as easy as turning the camera sideways and inserting a celebrity cameo. To scale, you need to continually evaluate your needs both now and into the future.

Solution: To the Hyland Cloud!

To succeed, your organization needs a platform that meets your needs today, while offering scalability to grow and evolve with you.

That’s where the cloud really helps. The right platform will automatically deliver frequent updates and enhancements — all developed by specially trained and accredited experts. Free from managing servers and dealing with legacy systems, your IT experts can focus on higher-value goals like growing the business.

The Batusi

If you don’t know what the Batusi is, you’re missing out. But rest assured, Batman shakes a mean cape when he’s dancing, that’s for sure. The Dark Knight, not so much.

Regardless, if you’re looking for constant connectivity, fearsome flexibility, and super scalability, don’t look to the sky for the Batsignal. Head to the Hyland Cloud!

All of our scan queue sweeps and associated document processing associated to them stopped working, i.e. image conversion, advanced capture and deletion of imaged files. After two months we finally have the sweeps working again but advanced capture, etc. is still down. It feels like when we did the upgrade not all of the items that needed to be upgraded were which caused the break, but we haven't been able to get confirmation of that.

Thanks a ton, Jeff! We also use this functionality a lot and will be sure to test it extra before upgrading prod.

Yes. This.

Just getting tickets routed to the right group let alone actually attended to is an exercise in frustration. Insertion of first level support between us as hosted customers and the soon to be renamed GCS folks is very frustrating.

Understaffed for sure and yet still selling the service hard.  Maybe staff up a bit before encouraging more useage?

I would just like to ask a question here....where is Robin at in this picture? 🙂

He wasn't watching his footing and feel into the black hole of support.

I do hope that Hyland takes note of the comments raised in this post and does something to appease their existing and prospective Hyland Cloud customers. We investigated going with Hyland Cloud last year and decided to go at it on our own for the concerns being raised in this thread as well as other fundamental ITSM and Operational shortfalls that were not a good fit for our organization.

There is no doubt they know how best to host their software in the cloud, but we could not help but get a sense that the cloud offering was not flexible enough to meet the vast differences between organizations.

One extremely negative take away from our engagements was after we decided to go on our own and migrate to our own AWS account. We received zero support to succeed in the project as any information around the cloud is treated as proprietary. I fully understand the business strategy but start to question if it is in the best interest of the customer to take this approach.

We are happily building out a proper (no lite / limited test environments), highly scalable and stable full SDLC environment that is fit for our needs with minimal assistance from Hyland and zero assistance from GCS.

Hyland Cloud has a place and does provide a  good value proposition but there is a lot of room for improvement to meet their customers' needs

Hi friends. I want to thank you for your honesty with your comments. And I love how some of you have creatively embraced the Batman theme.

Please know we’ve had many discussions in response to your comments. Not only do we value them, but we are listening and acting on them. We will be sharing concrete details as soon as possible. Until then, I want to reiterate how our mission at Hyland Community is to build — and continually improve — a place where customers, partners, and Hylanders feel supported and heard.

Fostering a culture of open and honest dialogue is critical to your success, and ours. In this case, we are reaching out directly to those of you who have shared your issues to learn more and seek resolution as soon as possible.

Our greatest priority has been — and will continue to be — providing all our customers with the highest levels of service and support. We recognize there is always room for improvement, especially with your help. To that end, we continuously review our processes and are investing in new technology and additional resources to enhance our service capabilities.

Your continued feedback is essential for us to identify potential gaps and evaluate opportunities to bridge those gaps. We succeed when, and only when, you succeed. Thank you.

Nearly a year later now, what changes has Hyland put in place to improve the customer experience?  If this blog were posted today, what would the feedback be?  Thanks.

Hi @jefflenkowski. Thanks for the question!

Here are four ways Hyland has improved The Hyland Cloud customer experience in the past year:

  1. The 22 release included the new OnBase Administration Portal we developed specifically to improve the hosted administration experience. It’s an online resource system administrators can use to access and configure data within OnBase in an accessible, web-based format.
  2. We started a corporate initiative focused solely on improving the Cloud Customer Experience, including all aspects of people, process, and product. This is a shared journey, and we’re utilizing your feedback — via surveys, blog post comments, Net Promoter Scores, and discussions — to continuously improve your experience.
  3. We also created a team dedicated to improving and enhancing the overall upgrade experience for hosted customers. Again, we’re using your feedback to improve the reliability, documentation, and consultations around our software deployments.
  4. In addition, we built a system administrator guide specific to hosted administrators that allows you to create, retrieve, manage, and distribute electronic documents.

We know there's always more to do, but hope this list helps. Let's keep this discussion going!
