Custom formatting on a date type of field doesn't allow a single character

I am attempting to set a date placeholder that will output just the Day of the Month (NOT zero padded).  which would be just "d" as the format.  However, the green check to confirm the date format doesn't activate until a second letter is added.  Is there any way to workaround this?  Or is this fixed in a specific version perhaps?

(for background, I am needing so I can format using ordinal date names like "1st" and "2nd" which requires a placeholder for the day number, then a placeholder for a conditional text value).

Hello Bryce,

Unfortunately, this control requires a minimum of 2 characters. However, you should be able to use the format "dd" to print the day of the month (though this will be zero padded).  If you have any more questions, or would like to suggest a change to this control, please do not hesitate to reach out to your first line of support.

Thanks,
