Migration from a FileNet SAP archive

Hello,

our Client wants to convert his FileNet Archive!

As SAP-linked documents contain additional indexing Information and as additional documents have been archived into FileNet, a regular SAP-conversion (SAP ABAP available to users that loads Documents from a source archive and archives it into the destination-archive) can't be performed. Instead we plan to archive documents directly from FileNet into OnBase using our existing Export-Tool and perform a DIP Import into OnBase. Due to the nature of the FileNet-ArchiveLink architecture the SAP-GUID is available as a user index in FileNet therefore we will be able to migrate this Index-information into an OnBase Keyword-type.

Now in OnBase we want to establish a workflow to build the OnBase internal SAP-Link tables using the "Generate OnBase Link for Existing (GUID)" web-Service.

At this point we SAP-ready. The next task would be to switch the archiveLink tables in SAP from source (FileNet) to the OnBase-Destination. This attempt would be easy for us as we have a simliar ABAP available we used in e former Project.

The last step (optionally) could be to delete the keyword-table for the SAP-GUID in OnBase.

In the result we would be able to migrate documents keeping the original SAP GUID!

Questions: Does anyone have comments on our Migration plans? Did I Forget something? Any comments are highly recommended!

Hi Claus –

You are definitely on the right track.  In terms of making the switch, since you have the GUID available as a keyword in OnBase, you really only need to generate the OnBase side of the link.  There is a web service for this.  The GenerateOBLinkForExisting method will accept the document handle and the GUID.  At this point you should be able to reuse the existing Content Repository (OAC0) in SAP by pointing it at your OnBase ArchiveLink content repository.   Since this web service is only hitting the OnBase database, you will get much better performance and will not have to regenerate data that exists already in SAP.
