New in 12: Virtual Print Driver Listener
The Virtual Print Driver Listener is here! While many customers have leveraged the Print Monitor for years to notify the active OnBase Client when a print job was available, this solution was not necessarily convenient for all users. The main requirement for leveraging the Print Monitor to index printed documents directly into OnBase was to have the user logged into a client at print time. This is still a great solution for users who spend the majority of their day working in a client, but until now this limited occasional or sporadic users – many of whom don’t need a full client but nevertheless have documents to print and index into OnBase.
In OnBase 12, the Virtual Print Driver Listener will give new options to VPD users who want to be able to index documents into OnBase – without the pre-requisite condition of logging into a client prior to printing. The Listener can act as a standalone feature that notifies OnBase when print jobs are available. And then the magic happens – the VPD Listener will prompt the user to log in and open a Unity-style Upload dialog*, allowing users to view the printed document while entering the keyword values into the indexing panel.
*The Unity Client Server license is not required to leverage the Virtual Print Driver Listener.
