An exciting enhancement in OnBase 16 is the ability to save Feature Services and OnBase Mapping configuration into the database. This great new feature will make configuring and upgrading the Esri Integration so much easier.

Saving these configurations into the database eliminates the need to add extraneous information into the Application Server or Unity Client configuration files for OnBase Mapping. For feature service mapping, there is no longer a need for the configuration XML file to be saved locally on the machine that hosts the OnBase GIS Web Service. Both of these changes will significantly impact upgrades for the better, as your configuration for these functionalities will be right where you left them in the database with no need to back up configuration or XML files that can be overwritten during the upgrade process.

The configuration for these functionalities is still done through the OnBase GIS Configuration tool. Any configuration done through that application will be saved into the database. Users upgrading from an earlier version of OnBase will have the ability to import their feature mapping configuration XMLs into the GIS Configuration tool, allowing them to automatically load their previous configurations and save them into the database with no need to reconfigure.

There are a few buttons in the configuration tool that are helpful when figuring out how to begin saving configuration into the database in OnBase 16.

Import

For importing XML configuration files from earlier versions of OnBase

This button allows you to import XML configurations for Feature Service mappings that you may have been using in earlier versions of OnBase. This eliminates the need to reconfigure using the configuration tool, as all earlier mappings will be loaded into the tool.

Save

For saving configuration into the database

This button allows you to save whatever configurations are loaded into the UI of the configuration tool into the database.

ArcGIS Services

For importing metadata about services hosted on the web

This button allows you to import metadata about the Esri service you would like to work with. This would typically be used when configuring the Integration for Esri for use with Esri Server, AGOL, or Portal. An example of a service that could be loaded using this button is: http://services.arcgisonline.com/arcgis/rest/services/Demographics/USA_Median_Home_Value/MapServer

Layer Data File

For importing metadata about layers coming from ArcMap Desktop in a Layer XML file

This button would be used if you are configuring the Integration for Esri ArcGIS Desktop. In our ArcMap toolbar, there is an option to export layer data to be saved as XML. This Layer Data XML file could then be imported into the configuration tool so that you could map the layer information to OnBase content.
