Deprecation and End of Life Announcement: CAD Spicer and AutoVue Viewers

Hyland has decided to sunset the CAD Spicer and AutoVue viewers in OnBase 19 with an end of life date of 12/31/2018. The driving reason behind this sunset is OpenText and Oracle have ended (or plan to end support) for Spicer and AutoVue respectively. CAD Spicer and AutoVue viewers require ActiveX controls. AutoVue ActiveX is no longer supported by Oracle and Spicer support by OpenText will end in 2021. Rather than continue support for either of these products, R&D has decided to recreate most functionality in the new Forge Viewer using AutoDesk.

We want to hear from you!

R&D is working on a replacement product that requires existing customer input to make sure the replacement meets the needs of the Spicer and AutoVue current users and accounts for all use cases. The Forge Viewer for CAD will be our go-forward CAD Viewer for 3D file support. If you own any of the CAD Spicer or AutoVue viewers licenses below, we would like to get your feedback on your usage of these products.

Below is the feedback we are hoping to gather from CAD Spicer and AutoVue viewers customers:

1.      Is your organization actively using the CAD Spicer viewer? If not, why?

2.      Is your organization actively using the AutoVue viewer? If not why?

3.      What CAD file types does your organization import into OnBase?

4.      What is the volume of CAD documents you have in your OnBase system (estimates are okay)

5.      Does your organization use markups?

6.      If yes, what do you use them for (archival, updating drawings with new revisions, others)?

If you have this information available, please feel free to fill out this survey by Monday, November 26th.

About the replacement Product

The Forge Viewer for CAD is currently in development and will support the ability to view and add markups to 3D and 2D CAD documents inside of the Unity and Web clients. The product is expected to be released in 2019. The only missing piece of functionality that will not be covered in the Forge Viewer is the ability to view existing markups drawn by Spicer or AutoVue. The survey mentioned above also help us assess the impact of this missing functionality.
