Alfresco for Digital Asset Management

Hi All

We are considering integrating Alfresco as a content repository for Digital asset management and using the repository to store images, audio and multimedia data. The issues that concern us are:

* Is Alfresco scalable to store thousands of images, audio and media data like with word documents?
* Is this facility available in the open source version of the software so that we can evaluate that further before scaling the solution further?
* Are there any limits to the size of the repository in this case?
* Are the images stored in the database or the file system?

Shubham

The type or size of content you store does not make a difference to the scalability of the Alfresco server. As by default only meta-data is store in the database, file content is stored on the file-system - so it will come down to the scalabilty of your server disks.

You can cluster etc. the open source version the same you would the licensed enterprise one. The only difference is you can only get support for the community edition on these forums Smiley Happy

The only realistic limits are down to the size and power of your server machine. We have tested with 1,000,000s documents.

All content data is by default stored on the file-system.

Hope this helps,

Kevin
