Development tools?

What tools are recommended to use with Alfresco development?. I suppose I don't need a full IDE in the beginning or?.

What is recommended for the editing of the XML and schema files concerning the Alfresco setup and development?

Personally, I would recommend an IDE. Before you get to know where everything is, you will be doing alot of workpath searches.  "Hmmm, where was that face defined again?"

I am usin Eclipse with WTP fully integrated. This gives you all tools nessesary. You can also optionally use XMLSpy for the xml development, but I have never found this nessesary.
