Slow file access from Windows 7

Alfresco Community 3.4d is running on Centos 5.6 64-bit. It uses Passthru authentication with LDAP synchronization. CIFS is enabled and operating perfectly. I can open, copy, modify and delete files from a Windows XP computer without any issues. However, from a Windows 7 computer, the same files take over 10 seconds to open. File types include Word, Excel and PDF files. (From Windows XP, the same files open virtually instantaneously.) File browsing is quick.

I tried different registry changes on the client, including disabling SMB2, giving priority to LM and NTLM authentication over NTLM2 and disabling IPv6. All attempts have failed in opening the files quickly. Server load is low since I am the only one using it now.

Has anyone experienced the same issue and found a solution?

After further testing, I have isolated the cause of slow file access from Alfresco to Microsoft Office 2007/2010 when running on a Windows 7 computer. If I open any of the Office document types such as Word, Excel or PowerPoint using Open Office, the documents open quickly from a Windows 7 computer. However, with Microsoft Office, I receive a Contacting: \\ALFRESCOA\Alfresco\Pathname message until the file finally opens after at least 10 seconds.

Has anyone else experienced issues opening Microsoft Office documents stored in an Alfresco repository from a Windows 7 computer?

I discovered the reason for the slow file access from Windows 7 using Office 2007/2010. On June 14, Microsoft released Windows update KB2536276. It addresses a vulnerability in SMB clients. If I uninstall the update, file access from Office 20007/2010 is normal (or close to it).

Do any of the Alfresco Community developers know if this issue will be addressed in subsequent releases of Alfresco?

Is there a solution to the PDF performance issue?  I am seeing very long document load times when I try to view one of my test PDF files.  I just installed Alfresco Community 3.4 on Windows Server 2008 using the default stack that installs with the Community download.  I an the only used on the system.

Windows update may have installed security path KB2536276. Check you installed updates in Control Panel. If it is, remove it and try again.
