Mounting CIFS share on Windows Server with Linux Client

I have alfresco installed on a Windows 2003 Server and am having problems connecting from my linux machine. I don't know much about networking or samba and hope that i'm missing something obvious here.

From other windows machines i have no problem connecting, however from my linux machine when i issue the command

smbclient -U admin \\\\servername_a\\alfresco admin‍

i get session setup failed: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE

I've enabled debugging for the CIFS opperations in log4j.properties

When i attempt a login from a windows machine i see the login attempt appears in the logs however this is not the case from my linux machine. I suppose that the request is not even getting as far as the authentication module of the alfresco server.

Lastly i can mount other shares in the same windows machine from my linux machine using smbclient, its just the alfresco shares that don't work.

As i mentioned i'm not a networking expert but i don't really understand how i can have 2 servers (servername and servername_a) that have the same ip address? Is there some additional network configuration that i need to implement?
