Hardcopy and Box Tracking

We are a small business with a definite need for an EDRMS and email records management. However today I am interested in hard copy records management. Can Alfresco create an entry for a physical object such as a box or file and store information as well as it's retention schedule information and a calculated destruction date? It doesn't have to work with barcodes (although that would be nice) as we are a small business and a unique identifier and a box location system (warehouse number/rack number/shelf number or some combination thereof) would be sufficient.

Yes it does certainly to the level that you require. You can create a non-electronic (physical) record which can then have a disposal schedule associated with it. One of the properties of this record is its location. This is a free text field that you can use as you require. To track a box you can either use a physical record and differentiate it in some way, or you could use a folder which also has a location attribute.

The system offers you the possiblity of creating your own property values, so you could create the properties for warehouse number/rack number/shelf number. These can then, if you want, be associated with a list of values (which again you can define).

These things together should give you the functionality you describe.

We have a number of Alfresco meetups happening over the next month where we will be holding an RM MasterClass, places are free but limited.

Hope this helps.
