This August, CommunityLIVE 2025 will take place at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. If you work with Alfresco or build custom solutions on top of it, the DevCon track is the part of the event you should pay attention to. It runs during the first three days: Monday, August 25, Tuesday, August 26 and Wednesday, August 27 and is focused entirely on developers.

I’ll be there all days: taking part in the training sessions on the 25th and joining the Hack-a-thon on the 26th. Here's why I think it's worth your time.

What to Expect on August 25 – Training Day

The first day is all about hands-on sessions. You’ll need your laptop, because these workshops are designed for active participation, not just watching slides.

Topics include:

  • Using Alfresco Process Services with real-life examples that go beyond the basics
  • Building modern front ends using Angular, ADF and integrating with the Content Innovation Cloud
  • Making Alfresco content AI-ready, from enrichment to smarter search
  • Connecting to AWS services like Textract, Comprehend, and Rekognition to add AI capabilities to your projects

There’s also a social event at the end of the day for developers to meet and share ideas in a more informal setting.

What to Expect on August 26 – Hack-a-thon

The second day is the Hack-a-thon. You’ll work in small teams (or solo if you prefer) to build or improve something open-source based on Alfresco technology. This can include code for the repository, UI extensions, or tools that integrate with other systems like CIC. Maintainers and engineers from the Alfresco team will be there to help.

There will also be a session at the end of the day for open discussion, where users and developers can talk directly with each other and with the product team.

What to Expect on August 27 – Main Conference Breakouts

DevCon transitions into broader breakout sessions. These are technical but more accessible, no pre-registration required.

You’ll find content covering the latest Alfresco developments, best practices, and roadmap insights, alongside workshops and customer case studies.

One of the highlights of this year DevCon track is the general session led by John Newton, co-founder of Alfresco. If you’ve attended past DevCon events, you’ll know that John’s keynotes are always grounded in real tech insight and long-term vision. This session continues that tradition, connecting Alfresco open-source roots with where the platform is heading, especially in a cloud-native and AI-driven landscape. For developers who’ve followed Alfresco over the years, it’s a rare opportunity to hear directly from someone who shaped the product from day one and continues to influence its direction.

Reasons to Attend

  • You’ll get practical experience with current tools and technologies used in Alfresco projects.
  • You can meet and ask questions to people who work directly on the platform.
  • The training content is focused, relevant, and aimed at people who already have some experience.
  • The Hack-a-thon gives you a chance to contribute and learn in a collaborative way.
  • It’s a good way to stay up to date with how Alfresco is evolving, especially with new integrations around AI and cloud.
