Hi everyone,

I like to check.

I have 1 site called Payslips where all my employees will access.

They are all consumers, except the hr manager is the manager.

I like to create a folder for each of my individual staff.

But I only want each folder only to be accessed by individual staff.

e.g. folder John can be accessed by John only. This applies to folder Rebecca to be access only by Rebecca.

I can't seem to find a way to do this. Please help!

Thank you.

It's siteConsumer.

Since you're asking the permission I grant to the user, I tested all permissions. The result is only siteConsumer and Consumer that returned an error.

Hi Jeff,

Yes, I have problem in managing permissions. I follow your instructions above but instead on a folder I applied it on a file. Click Manage permissions on a file, turn off its inheritance, invite a user and set the permissions individually. That worked fine, no error was found.

However when the invited user access the file via Document Library, there's an error:

But if the file is accessed via Repository > Sites > SiteName > documentLibrary > folder > theFile, those error was not occured.

I hope my explanation's clear enough. Thank you.

I'm facing with the same problem here, using 4.0.d

Because of the way Share works, if the user does not have at least Consumer access to the file's parent, and potentially, all of its ancestors, Share may complain. The reason is that Share is loading metadata about the object's parents and if the user doesn't have access, it isn't able to do that.

Does the user have consumer access to the enclosing folder?

Thanks Jeff for your answers, but nothing works.

I've set the user's role to Consumer in the parent folder, but the error still happens.
I think it's a bug.
There is no way of doing this works correctly.
We've tried to set every single permission on folder, but the error happens only with consumer role.

Agreed, I've re-created this on 4.0.d Community. I believe it may be the same bug as:
https://issues.alfresco.com/jira/browse/ALF-12422

Feel free to watch/vote.

By the way, this appears to be fixed in 4.0.2 Enterprise, so it should be fixed in the next community release. We don't know when that will be at the moment.

Hi Jeff.

Someone posted a workaround for this issue here.
https://forums.alfresco.com/en/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=46211&p=137059#p137059

I tried it and it worked.
