Difference between Enterprise and Community

Hello

I'm currently evaluating Alfresco in comparison to Liferay Portal and magnolia cms to see which one fits best for our needs.
Searching the website and the forums i'm getting contradictory information on how the enterprise edition differs from the community edition. What i learned from the website is that Alfresco Enterprise comes with support and some sort of quality assurance (e.g. bug fixes, updates, …).
But what about different features? Do i get the same functionality with the community edition? Are there differences in the code base?

Thanks in advance

The picture has fairly recently changed with regard to differences between Enterprise and Labs.   eg http://newton.typepad.com/content/2009/03/building-a-stronger-open-source-product.html which is why there may be mixed messages.

And you are right that the major difference between the two is support which is a broad subject.

There is only one alfresco code base,  but there are now enterprise only extensions to alfresco,  its a fairly recent development to be able to have this capability.
There are also labs only extensions to Alfresco for example Web Studio.

The list of enterprise only features is growing and (off the top of my head is)
Support for non open source databases.
Easy configuration through JMX.
Something to do with Kofax OCR.
Enterprise Heartbeat.

I know that there is a difference with suopport but what is the current list of Enterprise only extensions?

I'm not aware that there is a list.

Here's some as of HEAD today.
JodConverter (Communication with a pool of Open Office servers)
StoreSelector (Policy based storage)
JGroups clustering (Easier clustering)
Encrypted streams
Kofax (Image management)
XAM store (Store your content in an XAM repository)
License (Licence code)
Heartbeat (Monitor your servers)
JMX admin console (Monitoring and on line configuration)

Hi,

If the Enterprise version is subscribed and I become a member in Alfresco Network, can I get the enterprise source code of specific build number in order to rebuild the binary package?

Thx

Yes I think so.   Just ask support for an enterprise svn account.

Building the "binary" installer may require a tool that we can't distribute, however you can certainly build the WAR files and all the alfresco code.   Its the same situation with the public SVN version.
