Configuring charsets

I'm running Alfresco 3 on Debian to do Sharepoint emulation . It's not possible to access files with the characters åäö in them via windows web folders or in Word. Currently windows only shows a question mark instead of the characters.
Everything works fine through the CIFS share and the webinterface

After I installed "2007 Microsoft Office System Service Pack 2" from windows update webdav started to work but the issue remains with vti (sharepoint) on port 7070.

What's the difference between the webdav and vti (sharepoint emulation) implementations that could cause this issue?
