Alfresco Enterprise Installation Problem on Linux

Hello all, I'm trying to install Alfresco Enterprise on a Linux (CentOS) VM and the installation is failing at what seems to looks to be Postgres. The error:

There has been an error.
Error running su postgres -c
'"/opt/alfresco-4.2.3.1/postgresql/bin/psql"  -c "ALTER USER postgres
PASSWORD '\''****'\''" ' : psql.bin: could not translate host name
"localhost" to address: Name or service not known
The application will exit now.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I was able to install the Windows version locally, but my boss wants it on a VM that everyone can access.

Hi

What have you got in /etc/hosts ?

Have you got a firewall running?

Have you got selinux running?

In order of preference, I would disable selinux, until you are familiar with selinux, reboot and try again

To disable selinux edit /etc/selinux/config

Cheers

Tony

Thanks for the reply! I tried disabling SELinux, but no luck. The hosts file is actually empty and I'm not sure about a firewall, but I can check with the person that gave me the VM.

Hi

If the hosts file is empty, that's odd, as there will be no way for the server to resolve localhost.

It should, contain at least the following

127.0.0.1   localhost localhost.localdomain localhost4 localhost4.localdomain4
::1         localhost localhost.localdomain localhost6 localhost6.localdomain6

Editing the hosts file was it and it installed fine. Thanks!
