The recording of the fourth Tech Talks en Vivo session is now up. It is in Spanish, runs just over an hour, and covers the search module that replaces Apache Solr in Alfresco Community 26.2.

What the session covers:

  • Why Alfresco Search Services is no longer supported as of 26.2.0, and what that means for Community and for Enterprise
  • The history of search in Alfresco, from embedded Lucene through Solr 1, 4 and 6, and why the operational complexity of the Solr era is what motivated the change
  • What is inside Alfresco Search Community: the elasticsearch subsystem in the repository plus the alfresco-elasticsearch-batch-indexing application, built on Spring Boot and Spring Batch, polling the database over JDBC with a watermark index and a dead letter queue
  • How the content model mapping stays in sync automatically, and the field limit to watch
  • Deployment with Docker Compose, plus the configuration properties on both sides
  • Security: TLS, basic authentication and AWS IAM for managed OpenSearch
  • How this differs from Alfresco Search Enterprise, which shares the code base but indexes through event-driven Live Indexing over ActiveMQ
  • A live demo on 26.2, and the five-phase migration path from Solr
  • Query language support, including the part that catches people out: unsupported fields are silently dropped with a WARN rather than raising an error, so a query written to narrow results can come back wider.

The video has chapters and Spanish subtitles.
