Alfresco CIFS - Disappearing Folders in Windows Explorer

Hello Together,

We are using the Alfresco Community Edition 3.2.r2 on a Linux OpenSuSE 11.0.

Primarily our Users are Using Alfresco via the CIFS. Under Company Home We have a Folder Called "Ablage" below that are about 575 Folders.

Now We are having some Problems. Some Folders are just disappearing, when we want to access them via the CIFS/Windows Explorer. As if they weren't there! But the Folders are in the Web Interface and after I mount the CIFS into my Linux Box with a normale mount.cifs. Just not on Windows.

The Folders are coming back after about a half day, but then other Folders Disappear.

Another Strange thing is: When I type the Path to the invisible Folders in the Address bar of the Windows Explorer - it works! I can access the Folders as if there were no Problems. There are just not seeable.

I already changed the "last change" stamp on the Folder with touch - did not work. I tried to view it with the Total Commander –> Did also not work.

I already activated "Show System Folders" and "Show all Folders" in the Windows Properties but that also was no help. I also checked the rights but they are OK (you can even create Folders when you are entering the Invisible Folder via the Address Bar in the Explorer.)

Unfortunately, nothing appears in the Alfresco or the Tomcat Logs. Is there anything I could do? Did someone have a similar Problem?

Another interesting thing is: When I copy a Folder (maybe customerA) to customerA- , delete customerA and rename customerA- to customerA. Then the Folder becomes Visible. But the Complete Number of Folders below "Ablage" is still 570+3 (CheckInOut.exe, ShowDetails.exe, Alfresco.lnk). So another one must be disappeared.

I do not think this is by chance. Maybe there is a limit of 570 Folders for Windows on CIFSs or something linke that… does anybody know more, than I do?

I just adjusted the Login to the "debug" Level. When i'm Accessing my Folder "Ablage" I get a list of all the Folders below it. And on one, the Log File Entry just looked a little bit different:

Can anybody see something here? This Folder "KUNDE_KUNDENNUMMER" is not visible via the Explorer.

unfortunately, this does not really look like an error…

edit:
I think this line points to the Problem:

This Line only appears with the Folders, that are invisible! And when I am listing the Directory via the Linux Mount - the Line is not there and all Folders are visible!

Unfortunately, I have no idea, what to do with this  :cry:

I found these Settings and I am not sure, what they are doing:

# Enable the use of asynchronous sockets/NIO code
cifs.disableNIO=true
# Disable the use of JNI code. Only currently affects Windows
cifs.disableNativeCode=true

Can someone, maybe explan this to me?

Ok. It seems like nobody here can or wants to help me. But what is the next step for me? Is there a Mailing List or something Like that, where I could contact the Developer directly? Or will have to look for Professional Help?

Hi,

I have the same problem for one of by customer using the 3.2r2 CE.

Did you try the 3.3 CE ?
Did you pass the integrity checker ? (http://issues.alfresco.com/jira/browse/ETWOTWO-799)

Did you try to :
* backup content via FTP,
* delete the folder from the WebUI
* reimport the folder content again (via FTP)

Hi,

I copied the content of a Folder to a completely new one. Deleted the first one via the WebUI and renamed the new one. Then this folder is visible and another disappears.

This should be the same as via ftp…

I did not yet try the new version of Alfresco, because I was "scared" of having new problems then… Would you try it?

edit: It just happened Again! Still two folders are gone but the other two came back. But in change another two disappeared.

There are always 4 Folders not visible. What is Alfresco doing here?

Ya I know why its happening …… its because of in samba code of alfresco it always spill one file or folder name after one buffer full of data……so what is happening is as u keep increasing u file or folder in a folder ur missing file or folder will increase for example : lets say for 200 1 file is missing for 400 2 for 600 3…..it goes like that u cant fix it in configuration as thr is logical error in a file……If u want really want the solution then we ll have to recompile one java file so that we can tell buffer to start getting the file details from one file back…then u will have all ur files in the folder ….tell me if u really need a solution then we ll sit some weekend online and resolve it.

Of course if you can submit a patch, let's go, i will compile and patch my alfresco.

Other bug related, the disappearing folders have re-appeared as sub-folder in cifs, this is incorrect and it is not what we see from the web client.

I also would love to get this Fixed and really want a solution.

But I do not know how to help you, as I am not a Developer… So can you fix it?
