Wildcards in search

Hi again,

Have a question concerning the search functionality.

1. First of all the 3 characters minimum is kind of annoying. What if I need all the documents for one specific author (defined in the more search options author field)? In this case I don't need to enter some other search sting…

2. What with the search wildcards? I would think I can use * and ? as wildcards as I would in an other search tool (Lucene has this). Problem is I don't really see how this will work in Alfresco. When I enter "somestr" Alfresco finds the document "somestring" but if I enter "somestr*" the document "somestring" doesn't show up.

Is this a configuration issue or a restriction in the current release (we use the enterprise 1.1.2 version)?

Update: When I try "*somestr*" the "somestring" document is found… don't get it.

This is not the default again to improve the performance of default searches, as a *xyz* style match is the more expensive search in Lucene. We could make this configurable also if it's a problem for you.

We'd like to be able to automatically have Alfresco Explorer searches preappend the wildcard * to each search.
Is this configurable?  I don't see an option like this in the web-client-config.xml file.
How can we achieve this effect?

Thanks

It's not configurable - but it wouldn't be hard to do. I suggest you raise an enhancement request in JIRA and people can vote on it.

Cheers,

Kev

Hi ghernando ,

I'm facing the same issue. Would like to have the '*' set by default.

Have you been able to find a workaround for this?  Smiley Indifferent  Let me know if you published it at JIRA so that I can vote for it.

Thank you,

Hi:

I need to search the text in one particular folder only. The wildcard example is given for Alfresco Service, when I am using it for the Alfresco Webservice it's throwing Error. The way I have given for the folder space is /app:company_home/cm:data/cm:Test/cm:Job/cm:*/cm:*/cm:*/cm:Java. I need to search only in the folder named Java not in any other else. Is there any ways to do it so?

Please, please help!!

I have the following problem when inviting users:

I want to find Peter Smith amongst the list of 2000 users:

1. If I only type in Peter, I do get all the Peters in the system.
2. If I type in Peter S, I do get all the Peters and every user that has a S in their name.
3. If I type in "Peter S", I get ALL THE Peters AS WELL AS EVERY USER THAT HAS A NAME OR SURNAME THAT ENDS ON A S, still not all the Peters that have a surname that starts with a S!!!
4. If I type in "Peter S*", it gives me the same result as in 3.

So HOW DO I SEARCH IF I ONLY WANT EVERYBODY WHO'S NAME IS Peter AND HAS A SURNAME THAT STARTS WITH A S or IF I WANT Peter Smith ONLY?? It does not seem to work in the same way Google searches work!

Kind regards
