using alfresco records management

hi all ,
i am using alfresco for the first time and have some questions regarding the records management module .
To utilise the records management module features like audit and archive we need to use share only ? or can we achive it through alfresco explorer also ?

The functionality of the Records Management module are currently only available through the Share interface.

One of the major initiatives for the next release of RM is to improve the APIs so that you can manage records without being tied to the current Share RM site. No work is currently being done on getting Alfresco Explorer to use those APIs though.
