Hi,

I was trying to get hold of the source code to check how Alfresco works and if possible to propose to integrate with our portal but i am having serious problems checking out code. Can any one help in this regard…

Following is the error:

svn co svn://www.alfresco.org/alfresco/HEAD/root
svn: Can't connect to host 'www.alfresco.org' or unknown host
'www.alfresco.org'

I tried using svn co svn://www.alfresco.org/alfresco/HEAD  also .

Appreciate help ,

Thanks,
Ruchi

Just so you know you are not alone. I have the same problem too. In searching the forums, it seems there are plenty of us out there.

What are you using as an SVN client? Running Linux, I just tried to download the source at the moment with the following command:

svn co svn://www.alfresco.org/alfresco/HEAD

It worked like a charm.

I'm on mandriva 10 linux. Executing the same command hangs until I eventually get a "connection timed out error". However, I also cannot ping http://www.alfresco.org either.

It really looks like a connectivity issue. Did you try 'wget' to test if you're able to get any content from http://www.alfresco.org, i.e.

wget www.alfresco.org

Notice that I'm getting a redirect at http://www.alfresco.org to dev.alfresco.com. I knew this already and suspected it had something to do with why svn wasn't working. I really don't know the behavior of svn if it gets a redirect.

It looks like a proxy or firewall problem then since DNS resolution is OK and redirection works. I get exactly the same behavior and can download the sources.

Are you allowed to connect to ports tcp and udp 3690, which are the standards ports used for SVN servers?

(http://www.iana.org/assignments/port-numbers for the full list of standard ports…)

There must be a proxy or a firewall (or both…) preventing outgoing connections to those ports. Another way is to use svn+ssh connecting to port 22 but you need a login/password on the svn server for that to work and I don't think that Alfresco gives such an anonymous access…

You're right dshmalz. My IT department blocks outgoing requests to the SVN port. Thanks for your help
