We are using Alfresco Content Services 6.0 in our production environment, installed on a Windows VM. During the Alfresco installation, PostgreSQL was also installed locally/internal to the same VM.
We are facing a recurring issue where Alfresco becomes unresponsive/hangs intermittently. When this happens:
- File upload and download operations stop working
- Alfresco becomes inaccessible or non-responsive for users
- There is no significant CPU or memory spike at the time of the issue
- CPU usage remains below 40%
- Memory usage also remains below 40%
- We do not see any specific or obvious error in the Alfresco logs or Tomcat logs
To recover from this situation, we have to restart one of the following:
- Alfresco Tomcat service
- PostgreSQL service
- or sometimes the entire VM
After restart, the system starts working normally again.
At this point, we are unable to identify the root cause of the hang.
We would like guidance from the community on:
- What could cause Alfresco 6.0 to hang in this way without CPU/memory spikes?
- Which logs or diagnostics should we check during the issue?
- Are there any recommended monitoring steps, thread dumps, DB connection checks, or PostgreSQL settings we should review?
Any suggestions for troubleshooting or identifying the RCA would be very helpful.
