Recently I came across Alfresco. I have downloaded Alfresco-Community-3.2-Full-Setup.exe for windows machine.
After doing typical installation, I am unable to start Alfresco.
Following are the initial contents from alfresco.log file.

Hi punitdam,
i have had all kinds of troubles, forgetting or misconfiguring this or that with the alfresco bundles, but I never came across your trouble. Could it be that you installed some AMP files additionally ? Did you ceck the path "E:\…." for access rights?
Workarounds :
* do it again cleanly
* do it again, using the textual installer /see parameter list on "setup.exe"
* You could go and try the Alfresco Tomcat bundle. It will run all alone as well.

What's more? I installed it on a fresh XP-PRO SP3 install with only a few days on it and just the basics added (i.e. Mozilla, updated drivers, etc.)
One could not ask for a cleaner install environment and I've got no interface @ http://localhost:8080/share or http://localhost:8080/alfresco … Any thoughts?

Hi friends:
I have installed Alfresco 3.2 Enterprise version over W 2003, MySql community and JBpm. All has been OK in a local host.
FIrst i've started Virtual, then Afresco and last Alfresco Share but when i give the usr and the pwd it doesn't work :
Th users and passwords i gave are:
usr : admin pwd admin
usr : root pwd mysql or blank
but it says
FAIL TO OPEN :
the remote server may be unavailable or your authentication details have not been recognized.
and i can't login.
Can you show me how can i solve these troubles please ?.

Hi friends:
I have found the solving. I have read the PDF document: installing_configuring….pdf that is on the same page from loading the alfresco.
What did i forgot was to install the connector form Java to MySql. You can find in http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/j/5.1.html
I have download this connector and copy in the <Alfresco-Home>/tomcat/lib in the case i was installing ove Windows 2003 ..

Hello All,
I am newbie on Alfresco and java technologies. I am trying to install Alfresco on a web server and I am able to install but not able to run. I am not able find alfresco.log file in c:/alfresco (or in sub-folders).

I have 3 websites, Joomla, Moodle and 2 other PHP based applications successfully running on this server. I want to install Alfresco and run it properly. (Q: Why I am doing so many things on one server? Answer: I use this server as a demo & development server so it has many different things on it)
- Java (JDK and JRE) are installed properly.
- Able to sync and create Alfresco DB in my current MySQL DB.
Upon successful installation, I double clicked on "alf_start.bat" to start server it shows only following lines (without *s):

Starting Tomcat…
Using CATALINA_BASE: C:\Alfresco\tomcat
Using CATALINA_HOME: C:\Alfresco\tomcat
Using CATALINA_TMPDIR: C:\Alfresco\tomcat\temp
Using JRE_HOME: C:\Program Files\Java\jre6
****************************************************************
and goes away.
It shows the same out when clicked on Start > All Programs > Alfresco Community Edition > Start Alfresco Server (I understand we can use either or as it is opening the same file)
However in Start > All Programs > Alfresco Community Edition >
- Alfresco Explorer
- Alfresco Share
- Alfresco Website
are not enable (I mean it has a link but when clicked it gives 404 page error)
Also http://localhost:8080/alfresco gives HTTP 404 Not Found error.
** Approach **
My assumption is Alfresco is having issues with currently installed Apache 2.2 on my server!
I thought if I do following than it would work but it's not working either.:
- Edited httpd.conf and added following line.
– added Listen *.:8080
– added DocumentRoot "C:/Alfresco"
– Inserted
<Directory "C:/Alfresco">
AllowOverride None
Options None
Order allow,deny
Allow from all
</Directory>
– I have tried editing via Proxy but it didnt work to removed it
– I tried to add 2nd ServerRoot "C:/Alfresco" along with default Apache but my Apache was not restarting so I had to delete it.
- Edited httpd-vhosts.conf as follows:
– Added NameVirtualHost *:8080
– Inserted following code:
<virtualHost *:8080>
ServerName subdomain8.sitename.com
ServerAlias subdomain8.sitename.com
DocumentRoot "C:\Alfresco"
ErrorLog "C:\Alfresco\log\error.log"
CustomLog "C:\Alfresco\log\access.log" common
</VirtualHost>
I restarted the Apache and it is working fine. I am able to access my other sites and apps installed on this server. however when I try to go to subdomain8.sitename.com from internet (not from the server) it forwards to Apache's default page I had created. and If I add subdomain8.sitename.com:8080 it shows forbidden error:
Forbidden
You don't have permission to access / on this server.
So I am stuck here and dont know what to do next. I appreciate your inputs and thanks in advance. Let me know you need any more information on the system or settings.

I am newbie on Alfresco and java technologies. I am trying to install Alfresco on a web server and I am able to install but not able to run. I am not able find alfresco.log file in c:/alfresco (or in sub-folders).

some questions :
a) does it work without apache running ?
b) which deployment package of Alfresco did you use ? Is that the tomcat bundle ? That comes with an integrated MysqlDB, so you will have to adjust the batch files. Also, some installations have issues with updating the path strings in the bat/sh files. Doublecheck the paths in the bat files to make sure, you dont have any @@alfresco_home@@ or so left.
c) The alfresco.log - under windows - is usually positioned in the directory, where the tomcat was started from.

a) I haven't tried that yet. I will try that and let you know.
b) I have used: Alfresco-Community-3.2-Full-Setup.exe (on http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Download_Community_Edition). It had MySQL DB but during installation I unchecked that so it asked me if I have my own. I had my own so it was good for me.
- Regarding path, I will check and confirm.
c) I have kept it default which is c:/Alfreso and according to that I guess log file should be in C:/Alfresco/tomcat but I couldn't find it in tomcat or any of it sub-folders.
