For testing and bug reporting purposes, we usually require the build or revision number of running Alfresco Community installations.

I am sharing this tip since I was unable to find a way to get the build version number neither in the alfresco wars nor Alfresco Share:

1. Go to Alfresco Explorer (http://localhost:8080/alfresco)
2. Click on the Alfresco logo in the top left corner
3. You will get a "About Alfresco" page displaying the version number, just like this:

"Version :Community - v4.2.0 (r53687-b4776)"

That's it, pretty easy.

We are using a modified version of Alfresco and I am an end-user (not an admin).

If I see the version number "V.3.8.0 (A 4.2.4) / Rev: 7426 / N2" what exactly does that mean? I am especially interested int he A 4.2.4 part.
