Starting Alfresco as a Windows Service

Hi,

   I am testing out Alfresco 3.2 on Windows XP. I have installed it using the stack Installer. I start it using alf_start.bat and stop it using alf_stop.bat. I would like to know if there is a way of getting Alfresco start up a Windows Service – so that it would be in the background, and I wont have to see the MySQL and Tomcat windows pop up.

   By the way the Search functionality in this forum is jinxed. If you search for Start Alfresco as a Windows Service I get the following

   Anyway there is a Wiki Page Configuring Alfresco as a Windows Service   The problem with that is it starts only the Tomcat part. What about starting the Embedded MySQL also as a service?

To start MySQL, add the following to: C:\Alfresco\mysql\my.ini

basedir="C:\Alfresco\mysql"
datadir="C:\Alfresco\alf_data\mysql"

Then run:

"C:\Alfresco\mysql\bin\mysqld.exe" –install –defaults-file=C:\Alfresco\mysql\my.ini MySql‍

This is not working and I get the following errors in Application event viewer when starting the service.

Can't open the mysql.plugin table. Please run mysql_upgrade to create it.

Fatal error: Can't open and lock privilege tables: Table 'mysql.host' doesn't exist

Does it work correctly when started manually from the command line?
By default, services are run as the system account, It could be that the service does not have access to the configuration files.  Go into service manager and change the Log-On to the same user you are logging on with.

This worked for me, web interface is working but CIFS doesn't run. It's fine if I start it from console, any help greatly appreciated!

Try closing port 445 in your firewall settings, that solved the cifs-problem here

I am having a similar issue here.

Being a Linux geek, I have read all the posts I have been able to find and still no avail.

I have followed the wiki guide at http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Configuring_Alfresco_as_a_Windows_Service and also followed the suggestion here to start the services with the user account that I am logged in as (in this case, the domain Administrator account).  Starting the MySQL server and the Tomcat server via the alf_start.bat file works perfectly.  However, when I try and start them as a service it fails with the error log messages about mysql.host doesn't exist and can't open the mysql.plugin table.

I did have to change the paths that were listed in the tomcat6 section to C:\alfresco\… as the installation for 3.3 installs to C:\alfresco, not C:\alfresco-community-tomcat-3.3\.

I can dump the config files here and the commands I have been using if that will help.  Thank you in advance!
