[SOLVED] Alfresco 4.2d - Thumbnails and My Files not working

This weekend I've experimented with (a clean instal of) Alfresco 4.2d.

On first sight, it mostly looks to be working, but I encounter two problems with it:

1. No thumbnails are generated. Previews in the detail view work fine, thumbnails stay the default icons. Even after a restart of Alfresco and a hard-refresh of the page in Firefox. Because of this, for example the Gallery-view doesn't work at all.
2. After clicking on 'My Files' I get sent to what seems be (the root of) the Repository, only named 'My Files', instead of 'Repository'. I expect to be sent to "User Homes/Username". There actually is no folder for this user (admin), even though lazy creating isn't enabled.

Is this something others experience as well?

I'm not sure about question 1… which thumbnails are you expecting - images should get a thumbnail, but (on Community) not necessarily docs, etc.

As for question 2… "My Files" represents the users home folder and "Admin" doesn't have a user home folder so they are shown the Repository. If you create and login as a new user then My Files will take them to their User Home location.

On 4.2c almost all known files (except large, excluded-by-size ones) get a thumbnail.
In 4.2d none gets a thumbnail. I tried a few and jpg, png, doc, docs, xlsx or mp4 don't get one, but they all get a preview in the details screen.

PS: tested My Files with another user than 'admin' and that works as expected. Thanks (Should have first tried that myself, ofcourse)

That's unusual that you're not seeing the JPG thumbnails… I tried out the installer and was definitely seeing those image thumbnails generated. What installer version are you using? This might need raising at issues.alfresco.com

About the problem with the thumbnails. When starting up I get the following ERROR:

The .gif mentioned as source, is the Alfresco logo. I'm not exactly sure why that is being trqansformed.
I've tried using the ImageMagick from the OS (an older version 6.5.4), but that gives me the same error and still no thumbnails.

Is ImageMagick responsible for generating the thumbnails? And does this worker indefinitely crash after this first error, even though it doesn't say so?


2/9/2013 SOLVED: it was a misconfiguration. In alfresco-global.properties img.root pointed to the OS-version of ImageMagick, whil setenv.sh pointed to the Alfresco-installer supplied one. Now both point to the Alfresco-supplid one (is the newest) and the thumbnails work again.
This probably worked with 4.2c, as that one supplied a similar verion as the OS uses, so when mixed up, they largely work together.
