Roadmap and Collaboration Features

In the Roadmap, a 'threaded discussions' component seems to be in the works for inclusion in the open source version by Quarter 4 of 2005.   Is this still on track?  How about the wiki mentioned for inclusion by Quarter 1 or 2 of 2006?

Alfresco seems to be an amazing product and we were looking forward to features that could really make it a strong contender against collaborative applications like SharePoint or Sitescape.  We know that Alfresco is more of a CMS than a collaborative portal (or CRM) but we're hoping that these worlds will continue to converge.  It would be great to see what the plan was going forward.

Hi,

I am working on the discussions component as we speak, so yes, there will be something in the release this quarter. You can track the progress of this component via the nightly builds (there is only the initial cut of the model and a screen to create a forum space at the moment though).

The release of the discussions component won't be "threaded" it will be more of a linear approach for the first version (a bit lit these forums we're using now).

As for the wiki, yes, that is still planned for the first half of next year.

Have you mapped out your functional requirements for your discussion board yet? Are they on the wiki somewhere?

There isn't a wiki page yet. I will post the URL once there is one.

As far as functionality goes, for the first release it's going to be very simple. We will only be providing the basic posting of articles and the notion of replies (but not a full threaded discussion).

We are also allowing any piece of content in the repository to be discussed using the forums functionality being added.

Following releases will see more functionality added to this area.
