Revision Control

Hi

The revision control system offered in v1 seems basic to me. I haven't been able to define versioning on two different levels, for instance (1.1, 1.2, 2.1, etc…). Also it would be nice to have to opportunity to save a document as a higher version or keep it the same version (for instance, if you have only corrected a few spelling mistakes). It would be really nice if the version number in the Alfresco system could be linked to file properties within Word/OpenOffice.

Could anyone give some more background on the plans for revision control?

Hi Lundo,

The current version implementation allows major and minor version labeling.  A minor revision incrementing in the way you are seeing at the moment and a major revision incrementing the first part of the version label (for example 1.0, 2.0, …)

At the moment this function is not visible through the UI, but this has been raised and will be resolved before the 1.1 release.

If this style of version labeling is not appropriate for your needs it is possible to write your own version label generation code and use Spring to configure it.  If you need some further details on how to do this let me know.

I thing the 2-level versioning system will suffice. At least, for the time being.

I suppose that in the next release the Version Notes are displayed as well.
