Hello guys,

Could you please send me some information how I and my colleagues can reset the password on the Admin account in our alfresco 4.2.c?
We tried every thing that is presented here:
http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Security_and_Authentication#How_to_reset_the_admin_password
But every time the same result - we cannot login with the account.

Regards,
Boris

Do you have access to the files in the alfresco install?

If you look at the alfresco-global.properties "usually" the database password used will be the same as the admin account password. That's if the admin password never got changed after the fact. Hope this helps.

Hello and thanks for the suggestion, but it doesn't work. Smiley Sad

Do you have another account that is in the ALFRESCO_ADMINISTRATORS group? Can you log in with any account besides the admin account?

Have you looked at the possibility of upgrading and just create the new admin account that way?

Hello,

Yes, we are looking at the possibility of upgrading alfresco from 4.2.c to 5.0,  but we are still not sure if it is going to happend. If we are going to upgrade, would we need the same admin password, or we create a new admin with new password for the new version? Meaning if we do not need the old admin password for the new version than problem solved - we will use the new password from the new (upgraded) version.

On the other hand I checked the Groups and I can see in the ALFRESCO_ADMINISTRATORS group that there is one more account in it. I have the password and the permissions for it. May I use it to reset the admin passowrd?

Boris

Boris,

If you upgrade you basically are installing the new version. So that means you can set the password for the admin account before importing your database. If you go this route my suggestion would be to create an additional user with the same level of access.

If you have another user in that admin group then yes you can log in with that account and then change the main admin password. I've done this several times in a test environment.

Thanks you for the effert! I'll consider and test those options.
