Problem with accented characters

Hi,

I installed the latest French pack to my Enterprise Network environment on Linux, but in Firefox all the accented characters are translated into strange characters… Through the "view source" we can see that in the rendered HTML the characters have been translated to two &#nnn;
values which have nothing to do with the original characters.

Any option we need to set in the config files to change the encoding?
I tried various values in Firefox's "languages" menu but nothing seems to work.

Maybe because Français comes from the XML file web-client-config.xml

            <!– <language locale="ja_JP">Japanese</language> –>

and not from *.properties

But when getting to the main navigation screen with Firefox characters are not rendered properly. For example, the "é" gets translated to "é" (literally the ampersand followed by the #NNN; code).

I've got the same problem when uploading content in Alfresco v1.1.

When i view the file details, i can view it by webdav, cifs, external URL, downloading and directly in the browser… Each link has correct accented characters, except for downloading, which URL has translated characters like above (alfresco/download/attach/…).

Yes that is a bug - fortuntely it doesn't actually stop the downloading of the content - as the filename part is only used as the return stream name e.g. it will still find the correct node (from the ID in the URL) and return the stream, but the filename will be messed up. I will look at that today.

OK i've found the issue with accented characters in download/webdav URLs and committed a fix to SVN. The fix will be available in the next release/nightly build.

FYI the changed files are:
   M /alfresco/HEAD/root/projects/web-client/source/java/org/alfresco/web/app/servlet/DownloadContentServlet.java
   M /alfresco/HEAD/root/projects/web-client/source/java/org/alfresco/web/ui/common/Utils.java

In the /alfresco/faces/jsp/wizard/new-rule/details.jsp page when selecting a condition from the drop list, the text in the button below it (coming from the set_and_add_button message string) also gets wrongly created with the ampersand# code instead of the accented characters when using a language pack.

Same issue?

That's looks like a separate bug (looks like the values are being set via javascript in that component) - i'll look at that today.

But I would to know how to do in the rigth way the changes in files .properties for the language I want to view in browser. I am translating to portuguese (Brazil) and the caracteres aren't seem in the rigth way.

I want to show the word "espaço", but if the word was typed this way in the action-config_pt_BR.properties, it is showed like "espaço" in the source html and showed in other way in the combobox.
What I have to do to these special portuguese caracteres are being showed in the rigth way?

Hello,

That is a different issue, you need to use the native2ascii java tool to convert your characters to \u unicode style text encoding. There are several other threads in the forum mentioning it's use, also a quick google for "native2ascii" should help you.

Hi,

Another issue with translations : when defining a simple workflow rule, in approve step and reject step, when choosing to move or copy content, the "To:" in the reject process is translated using the language pack, whereas the "To:" in the approve process is not translated.

this is a bug in wizard/new-rule/action-simple-workflow.jsp and wizard/create-action/action-simple-workflow.jsp "To:" message not changed to "<hutputText value="#{msg.to}" />:".
