Right now I'm trying to get Alfresco Community Edition with Tomcat to run on a Ubuntu 6.06LTS LAMP server without even using MySQL [instead, HSQL] (even though that would be nice too). I'm able to install it to the /opt/alfresco directory (note the lower case Alfresco). Also, I've downloaded the tomcat addon. (NOTE: Downloaded AlfrescoCommunity-2.0-Linux-x86-Install & apache-tomcat-5.5.23 from dev.alfresco.com/downloads/). After reading up, I came across some different solutions..the main ones are listed here: http://forums.alfresco.com/viewtopic.php?t=5302&highlight=javahome & http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=332674 . I was able to (as far as I know) get the java jdk to install properly and have it linked properly to run (using apt-get…also used that to download imagemagik along with some other apps that were recommended on another forum post). However, after getting that to run, I still could not access the http://localhost:8080/alfresco website. I then read on another forum and found that I needed to install the WCM file (AlfrescoWCMCommunity-2.0-Linux-x86-Install) which would not install because it said that "Alfresco was not installed in the directory" even though I had pointed it to /opt/alfresco like I had installed originally.
In other words, we (the school division) really needs a clean running box that has alfresco on it. So if anyone has a step-by-step guide they know of for running with Ubuntu..or is willing to write/make one…I think this would be extremely helpful. I'll also make sure to mention this and pass it onto other school divisions in the area (the guide so they can easily setup a ubuntu box as well
). Especially if it had LDAP authentication…that would be outstanding!
I hate just asking for a step-by-step guide but I really don't even know where I'm at right now since I've tinkered with this server so much…plus it would be good for others to get benefit as well since I've been looking for a couple days only to not come up with any guides.

This sounds as if you haven't run Alfresco prior to installing the WCM, that caught me out too
. Basically run alf_start.sh (if you used the BitRock installer), then re-try installing the WCM component.HTH
