PDF upload size limit

Hi  Smiley Happy  I am new to Alfresco and am creating a basic CMS website. For the content I need I am required to upload a series of PDF documents, sized between 60MB and 160MB. However when I try to upload any of the PDF files to my document library in Share the upload dialog says 100% but then changes to failed. Is there a size limit to uploaded content, or is there any reason why I have been unable to upload this content? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Hello,

size limits can come in various shapes - explicit limitations via configuration or implicit via resource constraints of any component of the system. Alfresco by default uses a configurable in-memory limit of 262144000 bytes or 250 MiB (browser memory; value is the sum for all files in a single upload operation) in version 4.0, introduced specifically for HTML5 Drag&Drop support. I do not know about any other hard limitations at the moment - your implicit limitations depend on your environment, e.g. the free size of the disk partition holding your temporary data (all uploads are first stored there and then moved to the final location when all data has been received from the client), the free size of the disk partiion your content store points to …

Usually, when an upload reached 100% and then failed, it is a sign, that a post-processing action for the upload has failed rather than the upload itself. Do you have access to the alfresco.log and can provide it here? An extract of the log for the time you attempted an upload might contain information to what actually failed.

Hello,

as suspected, an automated action that is triggered by the successful upload fails. Based on your log, you uploaded the document into a WQS Site and a WebAsset aspect is automatically applied, triggering a PDF to JPG/PNG rendition. Due to some internal data of your PDF, this fails. Unfortunately, this goes beyond what I can analyse via forum. Some content inside your document is causing this error and other PDF documents may successfully be uploaded without this problem.

Fortunately though, there already is a similar JIRA issue which appears to fix the general error in 4.0 Enterprise - I do not know when this will trickle back to Community, which it might already have.

Thanks for your help! Do you have any idea what content within my PDFs may be causing this error, as I have been investigating and am yet to find where the problem is!  :cry: Thanks!

Search the forums for related posts - some users have seen similar problems with pdf's and may have identified which pdf aspects have contributed to the error. May also be worth setting up some test files with different pdf compatibility builds & embedded objects such as forms.
